Bespoke CAD Design & Reverse Engineering
From concept or broken part to production-ready design — we handle the whole processAt 3D Innovations we offer a full bespoke CAD design service using Fusion 360, covering everything from new concept designs to reverse engineering of broken or discontinued parts. Based in Wishaw, Scotland, we serve businesses across the UK who need precise, manufacturable designs delivered quickly.
Whether you have a broken part with no technical drawings, a sketch on a napkin, or a detailed specification — we can take it and produce a production-ready CAD design optimised for 3D printing, CNC routing or laser cutting. We work with you throughout the process to make sure the finished design meets your exact needs.
Our CAD design services:
- Reverse engineering — we measure and model broken or discontinued parts from physical samples or photos
- New part design — designed from scratch from your brief, sketch or specification
- Design for 3D printing — optimised geometry and wall thickness for FDM printing
- Design for CNC routing — DXF and toolpath-ready files for precision cutting
- Design for laser cutting — clean vector files optimised for laser processes
- Assembly design — multi-part assemblies with fit and tolerance analysis
- Prototype iteration — rapid design changes and test prints to refine your part
How it works:
- Send us your part — a photo, physical sample, drawing or description
- We model it in Fusion 360 — accurate CAD with full dimensions
- You review and approve — we send renders and drawings for sign-off
- We manufacture it — 3D print, CNC cut or laser cut to your spec
- Delivered to your door — or collect from our Wishaw workshop
We have designed everything from soap dispenser locking mechanisms for hotel chains to complete aircraft cockpit panels for private aircraft. No job is too complex or too small — and there is no minimum order.
"Simon was of great assistance in repairing the tweeter for my S8, the arm actuating the motorised part had broken. Replication of the existing arm was swift, 3D model provided and a few days later function was restored. Will enlist his services again, thanks Simon!"

Why choose 3D Innovations for bespoke CAD design?
- 30+ years of hands-on engineering experience — we're not just software operators; we understand tolerances, materials and real-world manufacturing constraints
- We manufacture what we design — no handoff to a third party; the same workshop that designs your part prints or cuts it
- Reverse engineering from physical samples or photos — no drawings required to get started
- Optimised for the process — designs built specifically for 3D printing, CNC routing or laser cutting, not generic CAD files
- No job too awkward — we were set up specifically to take the jobs others won't; one-off, unusual and complex are our speciality
- Client approval before manufacture — we send renders and dimensioned drawings for sign-off before anything is cut or printed
Industries we design for
Aviation
Full cockpit panel redesign and rewire for light aircraft. Custom instrument surrounds, control panel layouts and cable management systems designed to fit existing airframes.
Hospitality & Facilities
Replacement locking mechanisms, custom fittings and bespoke components for hotel chains and facilities management teams. We specialise in the discontinued parts that nobody else will reproduce.
Manufacturing & Engineering
Jigs, fixtures, tooling aids and custom brackets designed for production environments. Replacement parts for machinery where OEM spares are unavailable.
General Business
Any broken or discontinued component that's holding up your operation. If you can show us what it should look like, we can design and manufacture it — regardless of quantity.
Frequently asked questions
What do you need from me to start a design?
Almost anything — a photo, a sketch, a description, a physical sample or a broken original. The less information you have, the more we'll ask before we start modelling. We always confirm our understanding before committing to a design.
Can you reverse engineer a part from a photo?
Usually, yes. Clear photos with something for scale, plus any critical dimensions you can measure, are enough for most parts. For precision-critical components where tolerances matter — like mating surfaces or threaded inserts — posting the original part to us is more reliable.
What CAD software do you use?
Fusion 360. It handles everything from simple replacement brackets to complex multi-component assemblies with moving parts, and is ideal for designing parts intended for 3D printing, CNC routing and laser cutting.
What file formats will you deliver?
STEP and STL for 3D parts, DXF for 2D cutting profiles, and PDF dimensioned drawings as standard. Fusion 360 native files (.f3d) are available on request.
How long does CAD design take?
Simple replacement parts typically take 1–2 working days to model. Complex assemblies or parts requiring multiple iterations take longer — we'll give you an honest estimate when you enquire.
Do you only design parts for 3D printing?
No. We design for all three of our manufacturing processes — 3D printing, CNC routing and laser cutting. When you brief us, we'll ask which process the part is intended for and optimise the design accordingly.
Can I supply my own design file and just have it manufactured?
Yes. If you supply a production-ready file in STEP, STL or DXF format we'll quote for manufacture only. We'll review the file before quoting and flag any issues with printability or cuttability.
"From first contacting 3D Innovations Simon was very professional and helpful and did my job fast and efficiently with no hassle and was very reasonable with his price. I would definitely recommend this company for your needs."
